Chapter One-Hundred-and-Twenty: On the Brink

It's that feeling you get right before you jump. When you're on the edge of the diving board, peering down at the rippling water. Or that feeling when you're on the front seat of the roller coaster, and you feel the cart begin to tip towards the drop. Or when you're about to step on the stage and feel the heat of the spotlight. It's that feeling in your core that keeps your feet planted on the ground while your heart is full of feathers and ready to take flight. On February 10th, I found out that I had passed my teacher certification test. This means that not only can I move forward in my degree program, but it also means that I am certified to teach 4th-8th grade students math and science. Before I took my test, I was unbelievably nervous. My college experience has been grand, but it has had its fair share of doubts and downfalls. I've failed tests, doubted my abilities, and stayed awake at night asking God, "Is this really what You want of me?...

Well January has come and gone. I am a little behind on my resolution to write three blog posts a month, but maybe February is the month where I catch up. Well...it is the shortest month, so cut me some slack if I, erm, slack! Last we left off I was on the brink to return to school. Well, despite the dramatic storm that hit my hometown , everyone was okay. The pigs and I packed up a couple days later and headed back to Lubbock, TX to start the spring semester. Upon my return, I came home to both of my roommates, Nikki and Mary, rearranging their rooms. This was funny because I had actually planned to rearrange my room, too. New year, New room? Anyway, the semester started on a Thursday which was strange in its own sense. I was glad that we didn't have a lot of school days to attend upon our return, but I admit that I kind of wished we had just started on a Monday so my whole week didn't feel off! Anyway, this semester is education-packed for me! I'm enrolled in Classr...

Last week, my post was revolved around my resolutions for 2017. So far, so good. Especially with writing...because, look, a new blog post!! Well, I was inspired last night to write another chapter in my blog. After it all happened, I literally said to my mother, "Well, this will make a good blog post."  It all started when I was cleaning my room. It was after dinner time, and I had just finished sorting the last of my things. I was in a spring-clean mood and had a drive to rid my room of a lot of clutter. A couple of boxes and two trash bags of clutter, that is. Anyway, I had just moved all of this out of my room to begin packing and sorting for my impending drive back to Lubbock, when my radio suddenly stopped playing T-Swift and made a horrible, gut-wrenching noise.  *WHAAAA WHAAAA*  My heart stopped. I stopped, and turned towards my radio.  Oh Okay After the National Weather Service told me that they were just testing their alarm system, I finally...

Well, here we are, eleven days into 2017. 2016 was quite a year. I started my blog posts in 2016 with resolutions to focus on for the new year . Looking back at my posts (as little as they are) I feel like I did a pretty good job of following through with the quote I chose by Mark Twain: " Life is short, break the rules. Forgive quickly, kiss slowly. Love truly, laugh uncontrollably. And never regret anything that makes you smile. " My adventures ranged from celebrating birthdays (and a half-birthday for Bailey), taking classes that challenged as well as intrigued, living in the dorm and then transitioning into a house, two amazing Raider Awakenings, a poorly-timed but awesome concert, my first tattoo, my first out-of-state camping trip, getting my guinea pigs (!!), teaching real kids about real science, and so much more. The end of the year was no exception with adventures, either. Very shortly after Christmas (on December 28), Luke and I went to Six Flags over Texas for ...

Chapter One-Hundred-and-Sixteen: Merry Christmas

The first day of winter was on the 21st, but the chilly front that swept across most of North America came before that! As the Texas temperatures slowly climb back up to normal southern winter conditions, I'm slowly rocking back into my home life. The semester ended earlier this month, but before finals crept in, Texas Tech had its annual Carol of the Lights celebration. This is when the center of campus is filled with the sound of Christmas music and carols and, at the end, beautiful lights. The entire ceremony starts with Saddle Tramps carrying bright red torches down an aisle formed by crowds of students, alumni, and curious children.   **Drama** The ceremony continues with Christmas carols and songs performed by various groups such as the choir, esteemed opera singers or alumni performers, and various trombones. The sequence ends when, after a dramatic build-up and swelling of music, the beautiful lights illuminate the campus we all love so dearly. Taadaaa! It...
