Chapter Forty-Six: Lubbock Rapids

Image
Life has been pretty interesting these last couple of days. A couple of days ago, Bailey, Mary, and I decided to go out and try Noodles & Company. It's been tempting me ever since I got here since it is just across the street. We tried it out (enjoyed it!) and walked down the street to have a sweet froyo dessert. "Walking-To-Get-Yogurt Selfie!" Frozen Yogurt!! The weekend came and went, and Mary and I had the dorm to ourselves. Did we party? No. We stayed in and cleaned. Yes, cleaned. I'm not saying our dorm is filthy, but when four people live in a small space, it gets a little messy.  Monday was normal as usual. Well, sort of. Bailey and I decided to walk to class together. I didn't make it far, though, because I tried to wear my slippers to class. I must really like them. Or I'm just tired.  At least they're cute! In the afternoon, we had our LCG (Learning Community Group) again, and, of course, had to take a selfie. This

Chapter Forty-Five: 1 Month Later

Today is September 17, 2014. Just a month ago today, I was traveling to Lubbock with my parents, shoving all of my stuff in the smaller-than-anticipated dorm, and basically preparing for a new experience. I can't believe it's only been a month...it feels like I've been here for so long! I really, really miss my family and friends, but Skype has really been such a blessing. Long-Distance Selfie :) Everything was pretty normal on Monday. Mary, Bailey, and I all walked to our LCG (Learning Community Group), which is basically a freshman class for Honors students to learn about the campus and how to make resumes and such. Just like last week, we took a selfie...maybe this is going to become a weekly thing. Looking cute! My LCG talked about crazy roommate problems, mold issues, and English 2391 together. Generally, I think we all are enjoying the class...but it's really hard to get out of "high school writing habits" and shift over to "college w

Chapter Forty-Four: FOOTBALL

Image
Confession time: I, Sarah, have never, ever been to a football game. Ever.   Now, I have worked at a football game...ironically it was Texas Tech versus Baylor. However, working at a game does not, in my opinion, count as going to the game.  So, I am happy to say that today was my very first football game!! Now, to be honest, I wasn't sure if I was really going to enjoy myself. Not only do I know nothing about football (seriously, I didn't even know what a quarterback was before today) but the weather has been a little...wet lately.  Football? Or swim meet? People had warned me that when it rains here, it floods. But rain doesn't normally happen here, so I wasn't too worried. Well then it rained a lot and I stepped through 5 more puddles than necessary and decided that I didn't want to wait until spring to get my rain boots. Now I have rain boots and puddles are no longer a problem!! (Unless the river has a current stronger than a river...)

Chapter Forty-Three: Misadventures Galore

Sometimes I just like to sit back and think about everything. All of my lows, all of my highs, how I got here and where I'll go... It's so strange to me that months ago the idea of college was such a fantasy. I often remember my times in high school and how much I prepared for this, like AP classes, taking the SAT/ACT, and it honestly feels like I did all of that so long ago. I still can't believe I am here! I can't believe that I walk into these beautiful buildings everyday and am actually beginning to start my journey to the rest of my life. I am humbled everyday by this campus... my campus . I've been busy, busy, busy! Last Friday Mary and I had the room to ourselves, so we hosted a movie night for some of our neighbors! We watched Chronicle and Catch Me If You Can and dined on ice cream. It was a lot of fun and a nice opportunity to show off just how awesome our room is.  Vote Mary and I for best Movie Night Hosts The weekend was s

Chapter Forty-Two: Crash

Once again, I am happy to say I am enjoying my time here at college. On Wednesday, I had a couple of adventures. I was told last week that I need a lab manual for Chem Lab ( Thanks for letting me know last minute... ), so, after finding out the book store on campus was fresh out, Mary and I walked across the street to Varsity Bookstore ...a cheaper alternative. (Highly recommend this place for anyone going to Tech! Cheap, cheap bookstore run by very nice people). I grabbed my book, and Mary noted there was an Anime store right next door. Well, we had nothing to do, so why not check it out? That is an uncomfortable smile, if you can't tell. We were both extremely uncomfortable in the store. The only cool parts were the cute stuffed Pokemon and friendly dog sitting in the window sill.  Later that day, Mary and I decided to drop by the local Catholic Church Group, Women of Faith . When we went to Mass together a couple of Sundays ago, there were a ton of Catholic organizat
