Chapter Ninety-Nine: The Flurry that is February

Image
Is it just me, or are the days just speeding by? I'd like to blame this on the fact that February is the shortest month. This isn't valid nor fair to the poor month, but it's worth a shot. Life has been exciting in all the right ways. On February 10, we celebrated Ash Wednesday, which begins the season of lent. After a long day of classes, we headed to Mass and got our ashes and encouragement for the upcoming season. We, of course, had to take our obligatory selfie. #ashtag That following Friday, we had a special, secret event. Due to the amazing organization skills of Katelyn and many others, we all surprised Bailey for her 20 1/2 birthday!!  SURPRISE!! Bailey will be on her 11-month long mission trip during her actual birthday in August, so an in-between celebration seems appropriate. ( Read about her upcoming mission trip here! ) It was so fun to surprise her and celebrate such a wonderful person. Happy Half-Birthday, Bailey!  Birthday wishes

Chapter Ninety-Eight: All Things Bright and Beautiful

Sometimes, you have to make time to enjoy the simple things in life.  My homework assignment from my fieldcraft class was to draw two more trees. I'm still searching for another tree to draw, but I sat outside one afternoon and drew a rickety, bare tree. Being a science/math nerd, I don't sit outside and draw very often, unless it's for a lab. However, on Thursday, I found a nice tree in the courtyard between two buildings on campus, sat in front of it, and took the time to really make it special. It's not the best drawing in the world, nor is it the most accurate...but the sheer memory of lying outside, in the sunshine, surrounded by the tumbling, loose leaves and crunchy grass is what I will remember. I sincerely enjoyed my time outside. Hmmm? Hmmm?? Later that day, Nikki and I returned to one of my new favorite places: Gatsby's Coffeehouse. I just love the atmosphere there; besides, we really have to leave the dorm to actually get any work done.

Chapter Ninety-Seven: Keeping my Sanity

Here we are, almost three weeks later, and college has already swept most of us into a whirlwind of work. It's a little refreshing to put down my waitress book and tray and pick up a thick textbook again. Getting back into the swing of daily class and late nights studying with roommates truly reveals my true desire for knowledge, as well as rhythm. However, things usually don't go to plan when we want them to. When we first moved in, we noticed that in one of our bathrooms, there was a suspicious ring on the ceiling. We didn't think too much about it, since it didn't really bother us. When we got back from break, though, the ceiling bits began to fall off . We decided to contact maintenance, which found a leak in the pipe above our shower. Before we knew it, we had a large, dark, scary hole in our bathroom. It frequently rained dirt and dust in the bathtub with the impact of the door closing, but that wasn't the worst part. There was a piece of fuzz (insulation or
