Chapter One-Hundred-and-Thirteen: Queen of Social Media

Happy Halloween! Happy All Saints Day! Happy All Souls Day! I hope the recent celebrations and holidays have been just the right amount of spooky and fun.
If you can't tell from my blog writing, or consistent effort to get more followers on Twitter, you should know that I, Sarah, have an addiction to Social Media.
Okay, I use the term addiction very lightly, considering I haven't died from taking breaks yet; however, I do enjoy the occasional Facebook video or relevant hashtag. I am Public Relations Manager for my teacher organization for a reason: I really love connecting with people on the World Wide Web. It's pretty incredible that my blog can be (and has been) viewed from far-away countries like Canada, or even Russia. The Internet truly has power to tear divides among people, but it also has an incredible opportunity to bring people together.
While I'm sure a blog about my college experience isn't going to knit the world together in perfect harmony, I do believe that providing a real-life example of a typical (heh heh) college student can be beneficial not only to those looking at colleges, but also to those in college, to be reassured that, while it may seem like it, not everyone has their life completely together 24/7.

Speaking of not having her life together, let's get back to our favorite college junior: the one and only mess called Sarah. Instead of studying on a Saturday (like a responsible student would), it was decided that the much-anticipated TTU v. OU game was more important. The student section was chock-full of Texas Tech students, including Esther, Carolina, and me.

Before the Student Section got wild

The students roared with might all throughout the game (because this was one of the first games that actually held our attention longer than the first quarter), screaming for blood and victory. Phone lights shone to distract as well as support, and most voices were raw by halftime. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts as fans, we lost to the Sooners. Despite the loss, being in a section full of rowdy, hyped students makes any game worthwhile. We love our Red Raiders!

We also love our Masked Rider. The following Monday, to advertise Disability Awareness Week, the Masked Rider came out from the barn. I was lucky enough to pass by and grab a quick photo! It's always a good day when you get a picture with Fearless Champion himself. Oh, and the guy riding him. ;)

Mark this off the TTU Bucket List...

That next Friday, in the spirit of Halloween as well as Fall, the Catholic Student Association sponsored an event at the local corn field. Known for it's Corn Maze (Maize Maze), the corn fields is a fun attraction for many in the Lubbock area, including bored college students. Luke and I went as a date, alongside 35 of our closest friends. We luckily got some pictures before the Sun set completely!

The entrance!

The A-Maize-ing Squad

Aaaannd we were off! At first we were a huge mass of people mumbling "excuse me" to nearby couples and families, but soon the darkness swallowed us whole and many of us found ourselves separated and lost. Luke and I aimlessly explored for awhile before giving up and wandering back to the entrance to grab a map.

It all looks the same!!

Only a little scary

After we got our bearings with our directions, we easily explored the maze feeling more confident and, well, less lost. We not only found our exit, but we also found some fun places to visit such as the letters that spelled the name "Cheif Quanah Parker".

Nice!

It was a super fun excursion with Luke, especially since we has been wanting to go to the Corn Maze since his birthday! Hope you had fun (and thanks for paying)!

Pretty!

Thanks Katie for the pics :)

The very next day, Luke was hauled off to TCU for another football game, whereas I volunteered with my teacher organization to collect warm clothing for the homeless in the area. While it seemed bleak at first, we were blessed with Planet Fitness, a company a few doors down from our location, donated four large bags of brand new shirts. Granted, they all say "Planet Fitness" on them, but I'm sure someone out there will be happy with new clothes! We are so thankful.

Yaaaay volunteering!

Later that same day, Nikki and I headed to the annual CSA Halloween Dance. Nikki dressed as a cute scarecrow, and I dressed as Minnie Mouse. I love dressing as Minnie, but it is a little sad when my Mickey isn't in Lubbock because he's busy with band. Oh well, maybe next year!

On Sunday, we hosted a pumpkin painting get together. We had fun talking, listening to music, and being a little creative. It was all fun, especially the day before Halloween!

Yay Pumpkin party!

Yay Painting!

Yay Spooky!

On Monday, Halloween, Sarah demonstrated being an adult by wearing a pug onesie to school. I am not ashamed, because I was probably a lot more comfortable than most that day (except when I was outside. Curse you Texas seasons..). Halloween was also special because my Mystery Science Theater Class was taking a field trip to a local movie theater to watch Rifftrax's live riffing of Carnival of Souls. It was a cool event because most in my class dressed up in some way, and since I've learned more about MST3K and its cast, watching their shows (and spin offs) is more entertaining and fun. I even painted a pumpkin in light of the event:

MST3K has influenced me!!

MST3K Class! (The one and only)

Well, remember how much Sarah loves Social Media? Well, this was truly evident when I decided to tweet @MST3K on Twitter the image of the pumpkin. Well, they liked it (and retweeted it) which ended up in other people liking it, too. 73 likes so far, and that number (for some reason) continues to rise as more fans of the show see it. It's probably the only thing I'll ever be Twitter-Famous for, but I still ate it up.

My professor ate it up, too. I mean, in all honesty, he should seriously consider getting on Twitter. Not only have I gained attention to our class by MST3K themselves, but also Rifftrax, Kevin Murphy (cast member), and Mary Jo Pehl (cast member).

Kevin Murphy - Voiced Tom Servo

Mary Jo Pehl - Pearl Forrester

I mean, Mary Jo Pehl even asked to guest lecture. A CELEBRITY OFFERED TO GUEST SPEAK. That's pretty cool. I'm still in complete awe in the power of Social Media.

So, in a nutshell, life has been pretty swell, especially on Twitter and the works. I already have another blog post in the works, so stay posted for more weird stories! As always, thank you for reading. Oh, and don't forget to follow me on Social Media ;)
