Chapter Fifty-Two: Hooray for Hollywood
Hollywood came to Texas Tech last week in light of our annual Homecoming! There were events all week that had to do with homecoming, but I had a test on Friday (as did Bailey), so we stayed indoors studying most of the week. Friday, however, was the beginning of the real party. It all started with the parade. Bailey was featured in it (Colorguard!), so of course Mary and I had to go and scream at her! Besides, looking at all of the cool floats was fun!
After the parade, Mary and I met up with Bailey and headed across town to pick up a friend of hers, Nate, who was visiting for the weekend. Being the lonely college students we are, any visitor is welcomed graciously. He is super nice and I am very sure Bailey enjoyed his company.
There was a pep-rally going on after the parade, but we all decided to skip it, since we wanted to pick up Nate and not feel too rushed for time. However, there was a bonfire planned at 9 PM, so we headed over in that direction soon after picking up our guest.
Well....things didn't really go according to plan. The pep-rally ran way over it's allotted time, pushing the bonfire back nearly an hour. Unfortunately, Nate couldn't stay out too late, so Bailey and Nate had to skip out this year. Hopefully they will be able to see it next year! I admit, the wait was cold and long, but it was pretty rad once fire became involved!
Two of our neighbors, Justin and Alex, joined us at the Bonfire!
Friday came and went, and, before we knew it, it was game day! The statue of Will Rogers & Soapsuds was wrapped in red, as usual when we have a home game, and I finally got a couple of pictures of it!

My roommates and I throwing our Guns Up!
Now, if you haven't been paying attention to our games, Texas Tech has not had the best of luck these last couple of games. This was homecoming week, so everyone was desperate for a win. We played Kansas University, the Jay Hawks. I, once again, was blessed with the opportunity to sit with Mary and her visiting family again! Her family is full of sweethearts, I'm telling you.
Cotton Candy, hooray! (Benefits of sitting with a 6 year-old)
Band at Halftime...Impresses me every time!
And, I'm pleased to say, that I have now been to my first winning Texas Tech football game! WE WON!!
Woohoo
Fireworks lit up the sky as the gun shots resounded throughout the stadium. The Victory Bells rang out and the night was full of cheering, happy fans. Way to go, Tech!
Not only did we have an awesome game day on Saturday, but we also got a new roommate! Bailey nearly had an anxiety attack because we only had a 5 minute notice she was coming, but I think we were all relieved when we met her. Jenny is sweet and very nice and the perfect fit for our room (She took out the trash today, just to be nice!!). I can't wait to see all of the adventures we all have together!
I am still in the middle of my mid-freshman crisis. I haven't bought a red convertible yet, but lots of chocolate has been consumed. I'm feeling a little bit better about myself, but I'm rethinking my entire "genre" of work, so to speak. I've been wanting to be a part of the healthcare field for quite awhile, but I am now trying to ask myself the grueling question: "What do I love?"
Surprisingly, this is a little hard for me to pinpoint. I like science, but I think I love the discoveries that come along with it. I like isolation, but I definitely need my people time, too. And let's not forget my love for writing...
But I'm feeling a little better now. I am meeting with an adviser soon to talk about my plans, and I'm going to go to a Majors and Minors fair next week and gather all the information I can! I am also so thankful for all the love and support I have received from family and friends. That helped a lot.
I think I might be a little homesick....
Okay, I'm very homesick.
I miss my best friends and family and Mom's cooking and Luke...it's so hard being separated from everyone. The studies in college are hard, but not being able to come home every night is a struggle I wasn't expecting to hit me so hard. Despite this, I am still very glad I'm having the experience of being on my own (sort of) and, well, discovering who I am!
