Chapter Fifty: I Solemnly Swear That I Am Up To No Good...

Today was the Honors College Convocation. Today wasn't any ordinary convocation, oh no. This is the Honors College we are talking about. To give you some perspective of what the theme was, here's the invitation we all received a couple weeks ago:

That's right...Harry Potter themed! (Although, we were corrected by our Dean that Houses have been around a lot longer than Harry Potter)
If you don't know anything about me, know this: I love Harry Potter. In fact, when I was first interested in applying for the Honors College, I was asked, just out of curiosity to see if I was a good candidate, what I had read the previous summer.
I was pretty embarrassed to admit that all I had read that summer was the Harry Potter books. (Obviously it wasn't anything to worry about, because I got in!)
So, tonight, Honors students gathered in the basketball arena, not really sure what to expect.
We were greeted and randomly sorted into one of four houses: The Bell House (Knowledge), The Winer House (Courage), The Lawless House (Integrity), and The Haragan House (Service). All of the Houses are named after past Deans of the Honors College (One of them, Lawless, actually came tonight!), which I think is pretty cool!
Mary was sorted into The Bell House.
Bailey was sorted into The Lawless House.
And I was sorted into The Haragan House
We were each handed a key with a ribbon the color of our House tied around it.

My key...to my future!

Since we were all split into different houses, we had to part ways. I think it's good we got split up...as much as I love hanging out with my roommates, it's good to broaden my circle of friends!
I joined my fellow House members and listened to Harry Potter music score while we waited for the ceremony to start. We were all given buttons to wear on our shirts, which bore our House crest.

Our Crest

It began with our Honors College flag being carried in, followed by the faculty in their robes.
I think the magic truly began when Dr. Brink revealed the owl atop his cane. What a surprise! The arena was full of smiles, laughter...and magic
Dr. San Francisco, the Dean, greeted us and began the ceremony. We were quickly introduced to Dr. Wong, who was a big leader in the ceremony itself. She began with a very eloquent speech describing the purpose of our Houses and the magic we all possess. "Make your own magic," she said. Once it was time to introduce the Houses, she switched her hat to a fun wizard hat (as did many other faculty).

*Harry Potter Theme Music*

Each House was introduced individually, all given an opportunity to represent the spirit with all. (Haragan House had a fun chant... "Haragan, Haragan, that's our game! Service, Service, that's our game!") After we were introduced, we had the opportunity to gain 150 points for our house...we had to form the first letter of our house name. (H for Haragan!) And guess who won??? HARAGAN!! What a great way to start off the year!

The Honors College Crest

After this, we were dismissed. It was so fun and I can't wait to see what we do within our Houses (and win points!). All the students clumped around the tables of free food...and cake!

Caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaake

Today was really a dream come true!! I love Harry Potter (as I'm sure many other Honors students do, too), so being sorted into a House and being surrounded by Harry Potter-like things was just...cool!
Always remember the wise words of Dumbledore... "Alas...Earwax.
