Chapter Sixteen: Love is an Open Door
Well, it finally happened. I got asked out.
I know a lot of my friends have been shipping us for awhile, so this is probably pretty rewarding for you all. However, I really think I'm getting the better end of the deal here.

Who wouldn't want their own Luke!?
So, I guess you can say I'm pretty happy. Really happy. But it's kind of weird for me because we are getting so much attention and I don't know what to do with it. Usually, when someone wishes me a "Congratulations" or "I'm so happy for you!" I turn beet red and then put my face in my hands. I guess I'm saying this because if you approach me and say something about Luke and I react strange, it's because I'm socially awkward and might explode any second.
Well, maybe I'm feeling this way because every time I think of Luke, I think of how he asked me out. Oh, you thought he would just simply ask me to be his girlfriend? Oh no no no no no. This is Luke we're talking about.
So, this is how I was asked out on Friday, May 30, 2014. A day I will never, ever forget.
It was a normal Friday, in an odd sense. It was my last Friday of high school, so all the seniors were acting a little strange. Some were sad, some were happy, some were indifferent. I was just tired, from staying up the previous night doing last minute work for AP Government & Politics.
I came to choir at about 8:38 AM, normal arrival time. I was greeted by Ashley Saldana, our choir President (You remember her, don't you?).
Ashley: "Sarah, will you go get a water bottle with me?"
Reluctantly, I looked at the clock, noting we didn't have much time before class started.
"Please?" she added, lamely.
So I dropped my stuff off at my desk, and we walked down the hall to the water vending machine.
"Oh no," she says, looking into her wallet, "I only have fifty cents!" (Water at school is seventy-five cents)
Sigh.
So we walked back to the choir room, water bottle-less.
Ms. Miller, our choir teacher, had been absent the last two days due to illness, so we began to discuss all of our troubles because, well, why not? So I complain about having to stay up all hours of the night because of my AP class.
Ms. Miller: "Do you listen to Disney music while working?"
Me: "Uh, not really. Sometimes. Last night I listened to film score."
Ms. Miller: "What is your favorite Disney song?"
The room was quiet, but I could hear everyone thinking about their favorite Disney song.
Me: "My favorite Disney song, EVER?! That's hard..." Mumbles of agreement echoed throughout the room.
Ms. Miller: "What was that song you were singing all weekend?"
Me: "With....Luke? That's Love is an Open Door!"
From the Ever-Popular, Disney's Frozen.
Ms. Miller: "Oh yeah, that's a happy song! Why don't you sing it?"
Jordan (From across the room): "Yeah, let's sing it! I'll be the guys part!"
Ms. Miller: "The alto is singing the girls part and the soprano is singing the guys part...how appropriate."
Keep in mind, I wouldn't have just burst into song in any classroom. But this was choir, and bursting into song is quite normal.
So I began the song with Anna's speaking part: "Okay, can I just say something crazy??"
Jordan, caught off guard, says: "I love crazy!"
(This is quite funny, actually. Jordan was late on her entrance and I almost stopped completely to scold her because I KNOW SHE KNOWS THIS SONG LIKE THE BACK OF HER HAND.)
I continue: "All my life has been a series of doors in my face...and then suddenly I bump into you!"
"I was thinking the same thing, cause like," I hear, who is definitely NOT Jordan. I whip my head back towards the voice, because that sounded like-
Luke: "I've been searching my whole life to find my own place,"
At this point I'm crying, like usual.
"and maybe it's the party talking, or the chocolate fondue!"
In a nutshell.
So we basically finished up the first verse, and I know I couldn't finish because I was so shaky and flustered. So, of course, Luke ends it perfectly:
"Can I say something crazy?
Will you go out with me?"
I could only nod yes.
I am so lucky to have met Luke, and I see a lot of great things in our future!
I have to thank all the choir girls and drum line for putting this together, especially Ashley, Jordan, and Kelsea. If you were a part of the planning process, please let me know so I can credit you as well!
And a big HUGE thank you to Luke because singing in front of a room full of girls is not easy! THANK YOU!!!
